Cariss McLeod

Ms. Cariss McLeod is a certified Exceptional Children’s professional with 25 years of experience in the field of special education, educational leadership, and working with therapeutic children and their families. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Bennett College and her Masters in Educational Leadership from Gardner-Webb University. Ms. McLeod is currently an Exceptional Children’s Program Specialist serving schools, children, and families. She advocates for families who are seeking special education support and services under law (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act). Ms. McLeod seeks to empower parents and students. She negotiates with schools and other service providers by offering opinions, conducting research, and by representing and coaching parents in IEP team meetings as needed. She has served on numerous committees within the school system such as Multi-Tiered Support Systems, Department Chair for Special Education, Leadership Team, and Data Team. Additionally, Ms. McLeod is currently serving as an Exceptional Children’s Program Facilitator for multiple elementary schools. Ms. McLeod dedicated fourteen years of service working with therapeutic foster children and their families.
